Alpaca Soil Conditioner, Beans, Manure

Alpacas are ruminant animals with a 3 stomach digestive system which is perfectly suited to process and digest the plant matter they eat. This means that alpaca manure can help your garden grow because:

Why is Alpaca Manure a Great Fertiliser?

    • No weeds in your fertiliser because seeds are completely digested and do not travel into the manure like with cow and horse manure.
    • Lower in organic content but one of the highest Nitrogen – Phosphors – Potassium (N-P-K) values which means that it gives your plants more nutrients as well as improving soil structure and water holding capacity.
    • Can be used ‘fresh’ straightaway because alpaca manure doesn’t need to be “aged” or “cured.” In other animal manures, the nitrogen content is too high when used raw that it would “burn” causing plants to go yellow and shrivel up. Alpaca manure on the other hand has lower levels of nitrogen but still enough to be beneficial benefit to plant growth and root development.
  • Promotes soil health because of the great macro- and micro- nutrients inherent in the  manure and its structure. The alpaca “beans” look just like that, like small pellets, with a dense structure which can improve the soil’s texture and water holding capacity.
  • Suitable for vegetable plants as alpacas are not know to carry E-coli 157.
  • Low odour so you don’t get grossed out while tending to your garden.
  • Versatile to use as it can be put straight onto soil, into plant pots, hanging baskets, planters and flower beds and made into Alpaca tea.

How to Use Alpaca Beans  & Soil Conditioner

Our alpaca manure soil conditioner will be available in several different sizes (tbc) and will be packaged in recycled jute coffee bags. As alpaca poo is such a good fertiliser we wanted to make using it as easy and fuss free as possible – that means no plastic and it needed to be naturally biodegradable packaging!

To use the alpaca poo:

  • The small bags can just be laid down in a plant pot, and as you water the plant, the nutrients will run into the soil and feed it.
  • Alternatively you can bury the bag in the pot when you are planting it up. It will rot down and feed the plant for up to six weeks.
  • The final way to use the bags is to soak them in water for 24 to 48 hours; the resulting liquor (or ‘Alpaca Tea’) can be used to water/feed your garden or many pots. The recommended ratio is one small bag to five gallons of water. You could also drop the bag into a water butt (securing it with a string so you can retrieve it) for  a large supply of water/feed.

What Gardeners Think

I have been using Solomons alpaca soil conditioner as a soil improver/fertiliser for over 3 years now. In my 40+ years growing in the horticultural industry I have never had such bumper crops than from using Solomons Alpacas soil conditioner.  It’s easy to use, doesn’t smell or scorch, weed free and most importantly consistently produces bumper crops of fruit and vegetables. It’s also an excellent soil conditioner used around flower borders.
